Changes, Updates, Announcements!

I've been a busy beaver writing and making (admittedly choppy) graphics for my new ventures!  I have several announcements so I'll go one by one.

1) Blog

I've been making small tweaks to the blog layout.  Just small stuff like adding links and tags and trying to streamline it a bit.  I've been adding stuff to my pages and trying to keep all the stuff updated. I made a page which lists all my addons and all relevant posts, so check that out if you want to see anything like my UI or addon strings.

2) Guides

I have updated all my Restoration Druid Guides to be compliant with 7.3.2!  The Guides page is updated so going there will take you to all relevant druid guides.  Also, Restoration Druid Guides for Antorus, the Burning Throne are also forthcoming and will be up soon.

3) Twitch and YouTube

I have officially made the graphics for my Twitch and YouTube channels!  There are no videos up right now but I will be posting Let's Plays and other gaming content shortly.  I'm really excited to go forth with this next step and I've been planning it for a long time!  I'm the kind of person who researches something to death before I do it, and I find that my problem is I commit to doing something, research it so I can make it perfect, then it's never perfect enough and I never actually DO it.  I have been researching a lot into creating successful YouTube and Twitch channels, and I don't think there's anything else I can without actually MAKING the content. So, streams and videos will be forthcoming!  All that's left is to actually stream, I have everything else set up.  My goal is not to make money or become famous.  I just want to share my passion for gaming and become part of a community.  I admit I'm terrified to start streaming and making videos because of my crippling social anxiety and general tendency to be afraid of new things, but this is something I really want to do.  I will also be Restreaming to both YouTube, Mixer, and Smashcast from Twitch, so if you prefer those platforms, that will be available!

4) Donations!

Right after I said I'm not interested in making money, I'm telling you how to give me money!  I do not EXPECT or require anyone to give me money.  No major content will ever be gated behind a paywall.  If someone likes a guide or video I make and want to throw me a dollar, I've made that available. I have a donation link, Patreon link, and GameWisp link in the sidebar to the right.  I know people tend to look down upon creators who try to monetize their content, but I think if someone appreciates something I make and they want to help me out a bit, then that should be an option.  I will also at some point make a special page on my blog thanking my Patreons, GameWisp supporters, and top donators.

If anyone has a suggestion regarding this blog, YouTube, Twitch, streaming in general, or my Patreon/Gamewisp, please let me know!

Happy Non-Denominational Winter Holiday and I hope everyone has a great new year! ^_^

Surrender to My Will

Or, What I Think of Moira's Addition to Overwatch

overwatch moira guide opinion playstyle

overwatch moira guide opinion playstyle skin
We've had plenty of time now to play around with Moira.  Some people love her, some people hate her.  Personally I love her.

Moira is versatile and powerful.  She can function as a healer or as a DPS.  I think she does best as a secondary healer to a more powerful main healer, like Mercy.  She seems to function best as the team's floater, filling in where needed.  Neither aspect of her is a powerful as, say, a character dedicated to that particular role, but she is no slouch.  I like being able to pick whether I want to send out a damaging ball or a healing ball.  That her healing is directly tied to how much she is able DPS tether someone is an interesting mechanic, though it does get annoying if you're the kind of person who prefers to stay farther back.  It can be hard to do enough damage to recharge your heal beam.

overwatch moira guide opinion playstyle skinCan I just say though that I like the noises her balls make?  The DPS ball makes a sort of goopy noise, and the heal ball makes a sort of bing noise.  If you've played her, you know what I mean.  I like to send off a bunch of balls in the base area before the doors open at the beginning of the match, and I just giggle to myself.

Moira also has an interesting look.  She is not the overtly sexualized female character you see in video games.  She has a much more androgynous look, not unlike David Bowie.  She has a very strong face and short hair, paired with a smaller chest.  I like the diversity of this game's female characters.  You have your Widowmaker, who is literally all ass with her tits practically showing.  And that's okay.  There's nothing wrong with that.  You also have your Mei, who is heavier-set but no less compelling.  And you have Moira, who is more masculine looking.  The diversity is great.  There is no standard big ass big chest look that all the women conform to.  They seem more like real women.  (Not that a woman who does have a big ass and chest is somehow worse, it's just that not all women look like that.)

guide opinion playstyle skin

overwatch moira guide opinion playstyle skinI have found a playstyle that usually works as Moira.  I generally like to hang back behind my team.  I send out damaging balls first to whittle down the enemy some.  As my team charges in, I make sure I have a meat shield and start spamming my damagers, offhealing as needed.  If you are the main healer, you will need to concentrate more on heal balls and keeping the team topped up.  Only damage as much as you need to recharge your healing.  Also stay back more, because the enemy team will target you if you are the main healer.  Only get close to the enemy team if you have the rest of your team to shield you.  As far as Moira's ult, it doesn't really do that much damage unless you are under the effects of Orisa's Supercharger or Mercy's damage output buff, or if the enemy is Discorded by a Zenyatta.  If none of those are true, then it's best to just use it to heal your team.  It's wasted otherwise.  Moira seems to be better at defense than attack.  I wouldn't play her on an attack map.  I at least seem to do better when I can park her in a general area that is somewhat protected and throw balls out, emerging when needed to heal.
overwatch moira guide opinion playstyle skin
It can be very difficult to angle Moira's balls the right way.  You have to angle them just right or they will bounce right in the opposite direction of where you want them to go.  I suggest going into a training match and getting a feel for how the balls angle themselves.  In the beginning it's really difficult to get them to go where you want them to.  It almost feels like you wasted a ball because it turned in a bad direction.  If you want to throw out a healy ball, I would try pointing it somewhere it will bounce in a small space, like between two walls, so it won't bounce away from the people who actually need it.  It takes practice.

Can we talk about Moira's outfits for a second?  She has such cool outfits.  I really like her whole aesthetic.  You can really tell from what she says and how she carries herself that yes, she is better than everyone else, and no, she is not afraid to show it.  She has SUCH an acidic personality, and I love it.

All of this is stuff I learned from playing Moira coupled with my own playstyle in general.  Some people may have other ways of playing her that work for them, and I'm sure the way I do it is definitely not the best way.  Watch YouTube videos and streams of people playing her.  Take her for a spin in quick play.  Find the way that suits you best.  Or she may not be the character for you.  That's okay too. I love playing Widowmaker even though my aim is shit.  Just play what you think is fun.

Brave Witches group review anime panty girls

I'm back with another anime review!  Today we will be taking a look at Brave Witches.  It is a spinoff of Strike Witches.  If you're not sure what that is, think Girls und Panzer, but with witches and panties.  It takes place in an alternate World War II era, though instead of fighting each other, the countries of the world are fighting alien invaders called Neuroi.  For some reason, as happens in almost every anime like this, teenage girls are fighting deadly battles.

The world of Brave Witches has, as you might guess, girls called witches.  They have magic powers, like creating shields and healing.  With the help of magic-powered machines that allow them to fly in the air, they fight the Neuroi with machine guns and other cool weapons.  They also grow animal ears and tails when they use their powers, because reasons.  They also do not wear pants.  Like what are pants.  There are a few references to the characters and events of Strike Witches in this anime, which takes place between Strike Witches season 1 and 2.  If you are a fan of that show, you will spot the references.

This show packs a LOT of characters into a small amount of episodes.  Their are 10 members of the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing (the main character's squadron).  Most of the characters get very little exploration or development.  It's difficult to learn their names when you never really get to know them.  Several characters in the show are also unlikeably stupid.

Brave Witches group review anime panty girls butts

The character you see the most of is Hikari.  She is the main protagonist.  She is a very hard worker with a lot of stamina, but a woeful lack of raw magical power.  She has to work twice as hard to be half as good as anyone else.  She idolizes her sister Takami, who is a powerful witch and somewhat of a war hero.  Though she has a sunny personality and works hard, she is just not that smart.  You know that phrase, "Work smarter, not harder"?  She doesn't work smart.  She is also very green when it comes to combat, since she pretty much fell into the 502nd completely by accident.  There is a subplot of Hikari gaining confidence and experience that is enjoyable to watch.  She improves with every fight.  Her journey of personal growth, more than the battles with the Neuroi at times, make this show heartwarming and fun to watch.

Gundula Rall is the squadron leader of the Brave Witches, and while we see a lot of her, we don't really get to know her.  She is a firm but fair leader who doesn't really engage in combat much and prefers to lead from a base of operations.  She reminds me of Minerva McGonagall.  Sasha is the group's main tactician.  She's a hardass, and sort of like the group's mom, but like the mean mom who doesn't let you do anything fun ever.  Waltrud would be a fun character if she wasn't such a womanizer.  Every word she says is a come-on to one of the other girls and it's really creepy and offputting.  Anywhere else, she would have been turned in for sexual harassment.  But it's an anime, so I guess that makes it okay?  Edytha is the group's trainer.  She is the one who knows how to work smarter, not harder.  Nikka is a moron who is always breaking her flying unit.  She is one of those characters who is unlikeably stupid.  Georgette is the group's main healer.  Kanno is another witch from Japan who is unfortunately really mean and stuck-up.  She's not a very likeable character.  I think she's supposed to fill the mean but not really mean person with a heart of gold role, but she is pretty much just mean.  Sadako doesn't engage in much combat but also acts as the group's cook on base.  Obviously this is a LOT of characters to keep up with.  I didn't memorize most of their names and most of their backstories aren't explored.

This series has SO much fanservice it is unreal.  It still has less fanservice than Strike Witches though.  There are so many panty shots.  There are also camel toe shots.  I really should have done a panty shot count but that would have killed my soul.  As you might expect, there is some subtle (and less than subtle) girl on girl action here.  Even with all the fanservice, it seems to be a friendship and rainbows show DISGUISED as a fanservice show.  You come for the panties and stay for the friendship.  For some reason, the witches lose their powers as they approach their mid-20s, which really seems to be a metaphor for how a woman becomes less valuable as she loses her beauty and youth, which is SEXIST.  A girl grows up and suddenly becomes less useful.  Like really.

Brave Witches group review anime panty girls neuroi

The military aspect of this show is kind of funny.  Obviously none of this stuff would fly in a real army.  The witches put on magical boots with propellers that let them fly.  In some ways this show just chucks available WWII-era technology straight out the window.  In other ways, it's somewhat of an homage to World War II.  The ships and weapons used are all real WWII-era weapons and historical ships.  The girls are named after historical pilots.  For some reason, females of a higher rank are called 'sir'.  Toward the end of the series they're called 'ma'am'.  I don't know why they flip flop back and forth.  Even when meeting with high-ranking male officials, they STILL don't wear pants.  And don't get me started on the blatant disrespect and insubordination that these girls engage in a few times toward higher officials.  I know that would not go down well in real life.  But this is ANIME, with ANIME logic.

Okay, I know I've been shitting on this show for the better part of this post, but I actually did really like it.  It's heartwarming and cute.  The main point of the anime, besides the war with the Neuroi, is girls from different countries coming together and forming friendships.  The show doesn't get very dark, so if you want to see a cute but not particularly intelligent comedy with heartwarming moe military action, this one is for you.  There's a good mix of slice of life vs. combat.  I just wish there had been more episodes to fit in more of the slice of life aspect and get to know the characters more.  The show's animation is very well done, if not somewhat standard for an anime.  The landscapes and cityscapes stand out as being very pretty and well-done.  They're very detailed, almost like looking an a painting of a real European city.

Brave Witches group review anime panty girls flying cgi

The combat sequences make use of CG animation.  It's almost too much, because the CG doesn't look that good to be completely honest.  They should have left out some of the CG and opted for more hand drawn animation instead.  I don't like either of the songs used in the anime.  They're not BAD.  They're just standard.  There's nothing that stands out of makes them interesting.  The opening sequence is pretty standard shots of the main character working hard at life stuff and showing cameos of the other characters.  There's nothing special about any of it.

This show tries to be comedic at times, which usually fall flat.  Maybe it's funnier in Japanese?  Some of the comedy comes from the pervyness, which is don't find funny 99% of the time.  Some more of the comedy comes from how unintelligent a few characters are, which I also do not find funny.  Most of the comedy falls very flat for me.

Overall, I did like this anime even though I have a lot of criticisms for it.  If you like anime like Girls und Panzer or C3, this might be the anime for you if you don't mind the panty shots.  It's really cute and shines at showcasing genuine friendships and character development (at least for one character).

Heroes Never Die... For A Price

Or, My Favorite Mercy Skin in Overwatch

One of the best things about Overwatch is its many skins.  The basic character skins are fantastic, but the additional skins plus the customization of sprays, emotes, and voice lines make it possible to craft a character unique to you.  I myself tend to gravitate toward pink and purple skins.  I love Bastion's pink skin and Sombra's base skin.  However, I DO have a favorite skin in the entire game.

overwatch mercy skin imp favorite

Mercy's Imp skin!  I absolutely love it. I love it so much I made it my screens for my stream.  Purple and white is one of my favorite color combinations.  The way it subtly changes her resurrection line makes me giggle.  Like, that is SO me.  Heroes Never Die... For A Price.  I would totally charge for my services if I was her. Everyone's always all like "Someone switch to Mercy!" so she would definitely be in demand.

I love the intricate detailing on the costume.  Her boots are changed into an almost cloven hoof design reminiscent of a satyr or even the Devil.  I love the addition of the tail and the horns, and the purple hair and lipstick.  She also has those black triangles over her eyes.  All of it combined create an awesome, almost sadistic image that I like.  It's like she's saying "I'll heal you... but I'll also fuck you up and steal your soul."

This is always my skin when I play Mercy.  Do you have any skin you ALWAYS use?

Opinion on New D.Va and Mercy changes

Recently there were some changes in Overwatch that affected the characters of D.Va and Mercy.  D.Va was given missiles and a shorter shield time.  Mercy's ult was changed and she was given a rez that is on a 30-second cooldown as opposed to being her ult.

overwatch changes missiles

As for the D.Va changes, I have to say I really like them.  I was literal garbage at D.Va before the changes.  Now I have a real feel for the character and I love diving in and charging someone with my guns blazing and my missiles going off on someone, and finishing it off with a good old fashioned bitchslap.  I find that I have more eliminations.  I feel like now D.Va plays like a DPS with more armor, which I like because I haven't yet found a DPS I'm actually good at (RIP).  I like the addition of the ranged missiles as a finisher to get rid of someone whose health is low or as a distraction.  I'm not too sad to see the duration of the shield shortened, as I usually only pop it for small durations anyway, like to block an ult until I can get out of the way or while diving in.  The changes make D.Va more versatile and easier to play.  She's sort of my main now.

overwatch changes defense matrix

I'm a little more iffy on the changes made to Mercy, though I can definitely see why they made them.  It's nice having a cooldown on the resurrection instead of having to wait for that perfect time to hit Q.  The one thing I'm concerned about is how Mercy can possibly get Play of the Game now without that quintuple rez.  I've only seen ONE Mercy PotG in the last few weeks, and that was a very good battle Mercy.  I miss the way her glide ability used to work.  I loved flinging myself around.  I don't like the much shortened range.  Her new ult IS nice though.  It's like Orisa's Supercharger, except healing.  You channel a heal on one person and it's buffed and bounces to nearby people.  The damage boost beam works the same way.  I wish they'd stop changing Mercy already.  She's fine the way she is.

overwatch mercy imp skin ult changes sexy

I've been having a really good time playing Overwatch lately, especially since I haven't played World of Warcraft in a couple months.  I will eventually come back of course.  I just need a break.  I've also enjoyed playing Bastion (so trolly).  I bounce mainly from D.Va to Mercy to Bastion.  If all three happen to be taken I pick either Sombra or Pharah even though I'm garbage at both of them.  My aim is just really bad.  That's part of the I love Bastion, D.Va, and Mercy.  You don't have to be able to aim.

Repping the Horde IRL

The Battle of Azeroth cinematic shown at Blizzcon really inspired my inner Hordie.  I loved how it featured Sylvanas in all her banshee glory, and her cry of "FOR THE HORDE!" sent chills down my spine.  It actually made me feel pride in my faction, even though I've never really bought into the whole faction pride thing too much.  It made me want to rep my faction more.

So I took to Google to find some cool wallpapers to replace my D.Va ones.

I made this one my lock screen.  I love it.

This one is now my home screen (yes I keep it tidy).  I love how the lock screen is simple but still very descriptive, and it flows into this dark and foreboding home screen of the Dark Lady looking right at you with her red eyes.

I actually already had this phone case so I dug it out because I knew it would fit my Horde/Sylvanas theme perfectly.  I got it from here.

My final touch was to download the audio from the cinematic and find the spot where Sylvanas yells "For the Horde".  I clipped it to just a few seconds of  the just that audio and I made it my text tone.  Now whenever someone texts me, my phone yells "FOR THE HORDE!" in Sylvanas banshee voice.  My phone makes me feel like a badass now.

Besides that, I also have the Horde racerback tee that was on the Blizzard gear store a while back, but it's gone now.  For a long time I'd wanted to get a Horde symbol tattoo but I just never had the money for it.  I would like to get it maybe pastel rainbow, and more stylized or "chibi"-ish than the traditional Horde symbol tattoo.  If anyone wants to design that for me, that would be awesome.

How do you rep your chosen faction?

World of Warcraft: What's Next Panel Recap

This will be my last panel recap, as I didn't watch any other panels.  Blizzcon was a bit meh for me this year, honestly.  I only play 2 Blizzard games, so I only am interested in like... two-fifths of the panels.  But I was fairly pleased with what I saw.  Without further ado... on to the recap!

1. Poor mommy Azeroth getting all fucked up.

2. Of COURSE the goblins and gnomes are the ones who discovered this shit.

3. I feel like this expansion is kind of convoluted.  Like... we're all kicking each others' asses, then we go out and find these two island civilizations that both happen to have awesome navies, and then we both happen to go out on ship battles, all at the exact same time?  It doesn't sound all that interesting to me.  It sounds too tedious, and like this is all coming together TOO perfectly, if that makes any sense.  I like the sense of randomness that comes with just stumbling across an island continent like Pandaria and fighting on it.  This Battle for Azeroth shtick sounds like just more of the same old Horde vs. Alliance nonsense we've been dealing with since World of Warcraft Day 1.  I don't feel like it can be its own expansion.  The entire premise of the expansion with the navies and the islands and the boats sounds almost SILLY.

4. I didn't even like scenarios the first time they were a thing.  These will have to have some bitchin rewards for me to do them.

5. It's cute they wanted the island objectives to be a puzzle and tell a story, but I doubt the average player is going to appreciate the nuance of it.  They're just gonna kill shit and get out.

world of warcraft battle for azeroth island crab

Can I tame this crab on my hunter though?

6. A shadow hunter, a witch doctor, and a berserker.  Possible future subclasses?

world of warcraft battle for azeroth subclasses shadow hunter witch doctor berserker

7. Smart AI?  Nonsense.

8. The Alliance architecture on some of the islands sort of reminds me of Tol Barad.  I hated Tol Barad.

world of warcraft battle for azeroth alliance havenswood

9. We just (presumably) won our war with the Legion, and instead of coming together to rebuild our world and make it a better place... we've all decided to fight over it.  So whoever wins is basically king of the shit hill.  Magni is the only one who knows what's up, but who listens to dwarves?

10. So the Heart of Azeroth is Artifact 2.0, basically.  Once wasn't enough?

world of warcraft battle for azeroth heart of azeroth

11. They seem to be trying to customize the class experience by adding these armor "talent trees", but probably people will just analyze the fuck out of them to see which combination delivers the most output.  Ask Mr Robot will probably have a gadget for that.  So it's really no choice at all, because everyone will have the same cookie cutter build that has the most output.

12. So basically every time we get a new item, we're gonna have to plug it into Ask Mr Robot to find the best combination of gear and traits.  How is this any better than the reforging system?  At least that was simple.

13. What's the point of fighting over all this again?  Why don't we just let the Alliance have the Eastern Kingdoms, and the Horde can have Kalimdor?

14. Will we FINALLY find out what that inaccessible zone toward the top of Eastern Kingdoms is?

15. I will probably NEVER do a War Front.  It sounds way too tedious.

16. Yeah they are DEFINITELY trying to replace Discord!  Integrating voice right into World of Warcraft is a direct shot at other voice communication apps.  Whether it will be implemented correctly so as to draw in the player base away from those other apps is the challenge here.

17. My god can you imagine if there was a voice version of trade chat?  I can imagine all the "anal" spam.  I love anal spam.

world of warcraft battle for azeroth voice app

That concludes the Blizzcon spam (probably).  For more info you can check out great sites like wowhead or Blizzard Watch.  Hopefully the next expansion will be better than I think it will be and I'm just being a downer.

3. Can Tentacle Moira be a skin though?

4. "I think it's cool, but I dunno how I'm gonna use these tentacles..."  I know how.

5. I like Moira's more androgynous feel.  She gives me a David Bowie in the '80s vibe.  I'm glad the Overwatch team don't feel compelled to make all their characters as bodacious as Widowmaker, because women do have these varying body types and we don't all have long legs and huge asses (though those who do, you rock girl!)  I feel like there's a lot more representation for all types of people in Overwatch than there is in most other games.

6. I think Moira's Oasis skin looks gorgeous.  The white and gold with purple accents is super pretty.

overwatch moira concept art skin

7. Holy shit that glam skin.  It's looks like a candy raver on acid threw up rainbows all over the paper.  It's terrible and awesome at the same time.  I guess they were getting David Bowie vibes too.

8. Moira's toolkit seems a bit OP.  Looks awesome.

9. "Stop off for a burger and some Death Wings at Snaxxramas."  I'm literally dying right now. 😂

10. They put a fuckton of detail into this map.  It's like a love letter to the fans of their other games.  I think it's actually really sweet.

11. There should be a skin of Widowmaker dressed as Sylvanas Windrunner.

12. Symmetra's new Halloween skin is very Deathwing-esque.  Perhaps it would have fit better in the Blizzard throwback skin series?

13. Torbjorn as Magni!  That is so hilarious.  But why did they make Widow look like Nova?  I mean Nova is cool and all but NO!

Blizzcon Opening Ceremony Recap: Embrace the Awesome

1. He's calling it, but didn't they scrap that and call it the Blizzard app instead?

2. Gotta say I'm so glad they added the invisibility feature on the app.

3. I really wish there weren't so many apps for phones.  There's like 3 or 4 official apps tied to Blizzard games.  It would make things so much easier if they would just combine them into one app.

4. The new Profile feature for the Blizzard desktop app gave me some Facebook vibes.  Like you get random friend requests on Facebook so you go to their page to creep them and see if they're worth adding.  This sounds like something similar.  I don't have a lot of friends in the Blizzard app so this might be a nice way to learn more about someone.

5. The ability to change your avatar and include links sounds like a good networking tool.  You can include Twitch, Facebook, YouTube, and presumably any other website.  I do with you could have the ability to upload a custom avatar though.

6. I think the Blizzard Groups feature looks interesting but I can't really think of a time I'd want to use it.  Like a group chat?  It could be useful for guildies who want to talk even when they're not all playing the same game or on the same server, but then you'd have to be Blizzard app friends with all your guildies and that would be annoying.

blizzard blizzcon social what's next panel

7. The interface looks a lot like a slightly streamlined version of Discord.  It had text and voice chat.  I think they just wanted to make their own proprietary version of Discord and keep everything in-house instead of people using a third-party voice program.  I think that's a good idea, but having to have all those people on your friends list would just be... daunting.

8. I don't know about being able to chat with people on my phone.  If I'm not actually on my PC playing the game I don't want people bugging me about it, you know?  I feel like there has to be a line between the game and your real life.

9. It's nice they updated the buying interface and added a gifting option.  I've heard that it was difficult to gift someone something, but I haven't done it so I don't know.

Blizzcon Opening Ceremony Recap: Embrace the Awesome

1. I'm on a BOAT!

2. Um not gonna lie, the Horde probably started it.  Maybe by accident. Possibly.

2.  Kul Tiras doesn't look all that interesting.  Just more of the same Alliance architecture.

3. Drustvar looks kinda cool.

4. Weren't we fighting Zandalari like 2 expansions ago?  Why would they join us now?

5. I may be biased, but I feel like Zandalar looks way cooler than Kul Tiras.  It has a very Mayan-esque feel to it that Horde players don't see EVERYWHERE.  It seems more unique.  Also dinosaurs.  The environments look amazing.  So lush and green and jungley.

6. The blood troll chicks look sexy AF.

8.  Disappointed about no fox people in the video.  Sad panda.

9. Can Vol'jin not be dead?  He was a cool dude.  Of course I am completely loyal to the Banshee Queen but Vol'jin could come back and be like her adviser or something.  Which makes me wonder how Thrall feels about all this shit going on lately?  Haven't seen much of him.

10.  It's interesting that they are gating the new allied races behind a story.  I haven't decided yet if it's good or bad.  Just interesting.  Since it's something you only have to do once, I think most people won't be too pissy about it.

11. I do really wanna play a Nightborn though.  I always thought they looked pretty cool.  Night Elves are my favorite race but they're filthy Alliance so playing a Nightborn would be a good second.

12. I really hope either the Nightborn or the Zandalari trolls can be druids.  It's cool to know they're planning more allied races than the initial six.  There are so many possibilities I would want to play at some point.  Naga, ethereal, fox people...  My god a fox druid.  That would be so cool.

13. Scaling leveling zones might be interesting for some people, but I have Loremaster and there's no way in fuck I'm doing any old zones again.  It shall be dungeon leveling for me.

14. This Heart of Azeroth thing sounds complicated.  I miss the days when we could just get a new armor piece, reforge it to our best stat, and that was that.  None of this extra trait shit.

15. I don't like the sound of the Island Expedition thing.  I'm not really a fan of any cooperative gameplay (except raiding). I'd rather do something like this by myself.  The fact that there's an added factor of racing against an AI makes it even less likely for me to do it.  I'd rather be able to take my time.

16. Ugh PVP.  Yuck.

17. I'm on the fence about removing the distinction between PVP and PVE servers.  I HATE PVP and I swore I would never go to a PVP server ever.  However, some of my friends are on PVP servers, and lots of great raiding guilds are on PVP servers.  I'm glad they included a toggle to opt out of PVP because if there wasn't one I might have to actually quit the game.  I feel like this will open up a lot of opportunity that wasn't there before.

18. I don't think the dungeons should be faction-specific while leveling. You're just going to be stuck doing the same 4 dungeons over and over again.  And when you get to level 120, who the fuck is even going to be doing dungeons anymore?  Unless they have kept the Mythic+ system, in which case it's not quite so bad.

19. Oh yeah Mythics are still a thing.

20. The Freehold dungeon is giving me some Pirates of the Caribbean vibes.

21. I really want a gold-armored undead dinosaur mount, please.

22.  Did anyone else catch that Kezan, the tropical goblin home island, is going to be a dungeon?  I'd actually be really interested in doing that.  But didn't it like blow up or something?

23. Oh wait yeah he's talking about Kezan now.

24. Could blood trolls be one of the future planned allied races?  That would be cool.

25.  We'll be fighting Azshara!  I'm looking forward to this continuation from Legion's story.

26.  Yes, it matters who wins, you dirty slut.  Get out.

Blizzcon Opening Ceremony Recap: Embrace the Awesome

Other Blizzcon 2017 Recap Posts:

World of Warcraft: Gameplay and Systems Recap

Blizzard Social: What's Next Panel Recap

World of Warcraft: What's Next Panel Recap

Overwatch: What's Next Panel Recap

I'm back with my Blizzcon recaps!  As always, I will not be recapping everything Blizzcon goes over, as many sites will be doing that already.  I will be picking out the information I find the most interesting or am most hyped about, and give you my take on it.  Without further ado, let's get to the awesome!

1. Poor Mike Morhaime tries his hardest but I can tell he's nervous. He's stumbling over his words a bit but he's a fucking champ.

2. I don't even play Heroes of the Storm (YET!), but Alexstrasza is a badass motherfucker.  The cinematic way giving me some Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire vibes with Alexstrasza flying around the castle running into shit.

heroes of the storm Alexstrasza blizzcon cinematic

3. I don't play Hearthstone either but I enjoyed the cinematic.  When I saw the opening to the tunnel, it did make me think of the kobolds (aka the little candle fuckers in Highmountain), and it showed them and I was like 'called it'.  Also the Hearthstone set it so cute.

4. I feel like the 'Blizzard theme park' thing was kind of a tease at the beginning, like they were going to make it an actual thing, but then wait no it's an Overwatch map.  Well-played, Blizzard.  How AWESOME would a Blizzard theme park be though?  I'm thinking animatronic murlocs yelling 'mrglglglglgh!' at anyone who passes by.  Did anyone else notice the building called 'Snaxxramas'?  Gold.  Having the cinematic pan out at the end, showing Overwatch characters watching it on TV like a commercial was also a cute touch.  Bastion says, 'Beep boop?' and Torbjorn says 'For the Horde!'  Indeed my dude.

5. It's about time we got a new support hero.  The ones we have are GOOD, but the roster seems slightly limited.  Moira looks like a pretty interesting hero.  It's the classic story of science going too far and losing human emotion.  Science should be to benefit everyone, but here's an example of someone losing sight of that.  I like when Overwatch explores the story of Talon more, because we don't know a lot about it thus far.  Also I was thinking Moira sounds somewhat like Demona from Gargoyles (where my Garg fam at?!).  Moira's 'shadow step'-esque move seems like Reaper's shadow step thingy (never played him so I have no idea what it's called.  I thought Mercy was the one who worked on him, but what if it was Moira?  She sounds like a psychotic, egomaniacal bitch and I love it.

overwatch moira blizzcon opening ceremony

UPDATE: After some Google magic, it WAS Moira who did her scientific witchy-woo on Reaper and made him reapy.  I am so good.

6. I laughed out loud when Reinhardt's voice actor just ninjaed the stage.  I was like oh. my. god.  Fucking hilarious.  I'm so glad Blizzard has such a great sense of humor and you can tell the Overwatch voice actors especially have so much fun with their characters (you can find them being silly in videos on YouTube).

7. I liked the cinematic even though I don't play Reinhardt.  He's still a cool character and I love how just... fun-loving and cheery he is.  During the battle scene, I was like, 'Oooh look at all the Bastions.'  During the cinematic I had the feeling the other dude in armor was probably going to die.  It also struck me how much of a dickbucket Rein was being, just abandoning his squad to take all the glory for himself.  Then the other omnic dropped from the sky and I though it looked like an Orisa prototype.  I recognized some of the scenes from the Eichenwalde map.  I figured during the cinematic that the other armor guy was probably gonna bite it in some heroic way, causing Reinhardt to have some sort of emotional epiphany that changes his outlook on life.  Towards the end, my god it was sad.  If I was a more emotional person I would have cried like a baby.  We get to see how Reinhardt got his scar and ended up actually in the Overwatch game.  So like... at the end, does the suit of armor still have the dude's body in it?  That's kinda gross.  I feel like it would stink.  And who is this random redhead?  (I watched Panser's reaction video to this cinematic and she mentions she has the same tattoo as Torbjorn.  His daughter maybe?  They're both redheads.  NOTE: I knew Panser would cry.  No hate on her, I love her, I just know she gets very emotional and I knew before I watched that she was gonna cry because I almost cried.)

8. Ice cream?

9.   Ooooh I see where this is going.

10. That was a pretty cool effect with them reversing all the cinematics.  I know a lot of players have been wanting a Vanilla play experience for a long time (I have heard so much 'back in my day' shit from classic WoW players).  I won't be playing it but I think it's awesome for the people who will.  The one thing I'm concerned about it that it will take away from current expansion players and there will be less people to play current content with.  I think people will understand now why Blizzard took such a hard stance with projects like Nostalrius, because they were planning to do the same thing and wanted no competition (which is understandable since it's their game).

11. I NEED that Shadow plushie.  It's so cute.  Even though I have no more room for plushies anywhere.  Or money for them.

blizzcon opening ceremony shadow plushie

12. Jaina's still angry.  Kul Tiras looks cool but I'm kinda disappointed it's Alliance-only. Guess I'll have to fire up my old Alliance druid to take this continent for a spin.  Of course, the Horde-only continent of Zandalar does not disappoint and I'm excited to explore it.  Snake people, dinosaurs, tentacles.  What's not to love?  And trolls.  I do love trolls.

blizzcon opening ceremony zandalar battle for azeroth

13. Void elves!  Dude I so wanna play a void elf.  They look so awesome!  I am kinda disappointed that they took this expansion all the way back to the Horde vs. Alliance.  Haven't we learned to get along by now?  If there is a clear winner, then where would WoW go from there?  Although, I feel like going back to the conflict that started it all will really bring out the nostalgia feels for the old-time players.  FOR THE HORDE!

14. The animation in this cinematic is so detailed like what the fuck.  LOOK AT THAT WORGEN DETAIL.

15. TORBJORN!  Wait no that's just a redheaded dwarf. Never mind.

16. The Alliance siege weapons look pretty badass.  Not gonna lie.  I wish they would have showed more of the night elves since I do love night elves.  If night elves weren't Alliance I'd play one of them because I'm basically a night elf, all treehugging and shit.

17. Ooooh Sylvanas is pissed.  YES MY QUEEN SLAY.  Her banshee mode looks super awesome.  I hope we see more of it.  Her call of 'FOR THE HORDE!' in her resounding banshee voice sent chills down my spine.  It made me want to pick up a sword and skin a gnome.

18. I didn't even REALIZE that was Anduin until his helmet got knocked off.  He uh... he growed up.  Is he legal yet?

19. Anduin's 'For the Alliance' moment was cool and all but... Sylvanas was still way cooler.

20. Clearly, Sylvanas is more excited for this challenge than scared.

1. Kil'jaeden

The final boss of the raid.  Talents I recommend are Displacer Beast, Flourish, and Cultivation.  Spring Blossoms and Inner Peace both work well for this fight.  The raid will be stacked most of the time, and you may be able to fit in enough Tranquilities to make the talent worthwhile.  Take your pick.  KJ will cast Rupturing Singularity, which causes a purple orb to slowly drop from the sky.  There will be a purple pool on the ground showing the landing zone.  Stand NEAR but NOT in it.  He will also cast Armaggedon, which makes swirls of fire on some places on the ship.  You need to have someone soaking all of them or it does raidwide damage.  They also apply a DoT so don't soak two in a row.  You can use Displacer Beast to get to one quickly if you need to.  At 80%, KJ will fly up and the first intermission begins.  He will cast Focused Dreadflame, which will launch a beam of fire in their direction.  Stand in it so you all share the damage.  He will also cast Bursting Dreadflame, which puts a large circle at the foot of the player which does damage when it goes off.  Get to the edge of the ship so no one else is in the radius.  In the next phase, KJ casts Shadow Reflection.  Three players will get big and then drop an add.  Most groups stack near the boss so these will easily be AoEd down.  In intermission two, the platform goes dark.  You must find Illidan to gain his sight so you can see the adds.  The darkness applies the debuff Choking Shadow, which can make healing difficult.  In Phase Three, KJ drops a rift and also begind casting Darkness of A Thousand Souls.  When the cast is almost up, dip your toe in the rift circle so Darkness doesn't hit you.  Keep an eye on the Demonic Obelisk, which will detonate in a cross section of fel energy and will hurt and knock you back.

1. Maiden of Vigilance

maiden of vigilance boss guide restoration druid tomb of sargeras resto

This fight is pretty fun.  The Maiden is a guardian who, like most things in Warcraft, somehow got corrupted by a thing.  Talents I like to run are Cultivation, Flourish, and Inner Peace.  The big mechanic on this fight is the infusions.  You will either get light infusion or fel infusion.  Your raid leader may split the groups or not split the groups and trust everyone to not fuck up.  My group splits.  We have light on one side and fel on the other and we never cross sides until we get the opposite debuff.  If you ARE hit by the opposite debuff, always go to the RIGHT of the boss to get to the other side.  That way people of opposite infusions will never touch.  If you touch someone of the opposite infusion, you will get a bomb on you, which is a bomb that will force you to jump down the big hole.   When the timer is about halfway up, hit the big button so you get blasted back up.  She will periodically cast another infusion and move to the other side of the hole.  Another ability is the hammers, either Hammer of Creation (light side stack on tank) or Hammer of Obliteration (fel side stack on tank).  When the boss switches sides, Essence Fragments will come around the circle.  If you get the ball of your color, you get a buff.  If you get one of the opposite color, you get a bomb.  If you're bad at avoiding the bad balls, just stand on the golden line and they won't touch you.  You'll still get some buffs because the splash onto nearby people when others gather them.

2. Fallen Avatar

Fallen Avatar boss guide restoration druid tomb of sargeras resto

The Fallen Avatar can be a bit of a bitch.  Talents I recommend are Inner Peace, Flourish, Cultivation, and Displacer Beast.  There is a Maiden, whom the tanks will have to worry about.  When the boss casts Rupture Realities, get toward the outside of the room so you take the least damage from it.  He will give players the Unbound Chaos debuff.  Groups like to deal with this differently.  Some groups drop the debuff in a circle, some go in a straight line toward the boss, or toward the back of the room.  Ask your raid leader if he has a preference.  You may also get targeted by Shadowy Blades.  Get to the side of the room so it will hit the least amount of players as it comes toward you.  In Phase Two, you will deal with Dark Mark, where two players will get a purple circle around them and after a few seconds it does damage and sends them up into the air.  Do not stand on tanks with this.  Stack with others so the Dark Mark damage is shared.  Someone in it by themselves is gonna die.  The end phase gets a bit sketchy with healing so be prepared to burn your mana.  What makes this fight so bad is the Maiden, but you won't have to worry about her.  If you have free time, spam Wrath on her while she is casting Cleansing Protocol, but do NOT DoT her because you need to get off her as soon as the cast is interrupted.

1. Demonic Inquisition

Demonic Inquisition boss guide restoration druid resto tomb of sargeras

Here you'll be fighting two big uglies: Belac and Atrigan.  I recommend taking Flourish, Cultivation, Displacer Beast, and Inner Peace.  People won't be stacked very tightly and you'll always be moving.  This fight has a mechanic called Torment, which you will gain over the course of the fight as you take damage.  Much of the damage that inflicts it is avoidable, so be smart.  Once you reach about 70 Torment, click your extra action button and you will be transported to a different room where orbs will appear.  When you collect them, your Torment stacks will drop and once it reaches 0 you can click your button again to go back out.  Make sure you don't overlap healers going into the room.  Call out when you are going in and coming back, because you do not want all your healers inside and no one outside healing the raid.  Echoing Anguish will be cast on a few players, giving them a debuff which must be dispelled off.  When you dispel it, it causes an AoE.  Wait for the player to get clear of everyone else and have them call out when they are ready to be dispelled.  If they are at low health, top them up before you dispel them because it will cause damage.  Atrigan will cast Bone Saw, a deadly AoE that you can't really miss because he's literally spinning around.  Avoid being near him while he does this as it can one-shot you.  On Heroic, each boss gains an extra ability.  Atrigan gains Calcified Quills.  This sends a wave of spikes at you coming up from the ground.  If you are targeted with this, try to position yourself so this will hit as few other players as possible.  Belac gains the Suffocating Dark ability, which will drop a purple void zone below a few random players.  Get out of this as soon as possible.  This is a great time to use Displacer Beast, as standing in this will cauase you to gain stacks of Torment very quickly and reduce your movement speed, as well as damage you.

2. Sisters of the Moon

Sisters of the Moon boss guide restoration druid tomb of sargeras resto

In this fight, there are three ghost elf sisters.  You will only fight one of them at a time, but toward the end all of their abilities will be a problem.  Talents I recommend are Cultivation, Flourish, and Inner Peace. Displacer Beast will also be useful.  The floor of the fight area is a giant moon that will gradually shift from light to dark.  The longer you stand in one side, you will get stacks that make you take more damage.  To drop the stacks you just go stand in a different side of the floor.  On Normal it isn't really necessary to watch you stacks that carefully.  I've gone to 15+ of either one with no problems.  You should probably clear your stacks before you hit 20 though.  On Heroic you should not go over 10 stacks, clear at around 7 or so.  If you are targeted by Twilight Glaive, move away from other players.  There is a big red arrow showing where the glaive is going to come at you.  If you get Moon Burn, move to the other side of the moon to drop the debuff.  If there is no spot where the moon is the opposite color, you need to wait until it is.  The bosses will drop a Volley at random players, basically an AoE attack.  You need to get out of it as soon as possible.  It's a small AoE so I don't think Dash or Displacer Beast are necessary.  Toward the end of the fight there will be Volleys everywhere and you may need to Displacer Beast past a few of the to get to a safe spot.  The end is where the most damage goes out.  A player will also be marked with Incorporeal Shot, which shows a clear red beam from the boss to the player.  Other players will need to stand in it to share the damage.  Do NOT stand in purple beams.  These are bad.  When the bird Moontalon is out, the DPS will have to burn it down because it casts an ability that causes stacking damage.  It can hurt very badly so keep that in mind so you're ready to do more healing while the bird is up.  The worst mechanic in my opinion is Embrace of the Eclipse.  It puts a shield on the boss which the DPS will need to burn down, but also puts shields on random players, and if the shield isn't healed through the ENTIRE raid will explode and insta-wipe.  Instead of expending mana to heal through the shields, the best way to avoid this ability is for everyone to stand 8 yards apart, and the shields will explode nearly harmlessly.  If your raid has a lot of people and there is no room for everyone to stand 8 yards apart... you might actually be screwed if you can't heal through the shield.  One of the bosses will cast Glaive Storm, where she launches one glaive and it will break into 3 smaller ones, which cause moderate damage.  You can avoid them, just pay attention to what direction they're going.

3. The Desolate Host

The Desolate Host boss guide restoration druid resto tomb of sargeras

This fight is split into two halves: half the raid in the spirit realm (which can be accessed by clicking one of the blue braziers on the outside of the room) and the physical realm.  You can safely move between them, except on Mythic.  Talents I recommend are Displacer Beast, Cultivation, Flourish, and Spring Blossoms.  Since the raid is divided and your side will generally be somewhat stacked, you won't get as much out of Tranquility so Inner Peace will not be very useful.  Those in the spiritual realm deal with Soul Queen Dejahna.  The ability Wailing Souls deals raidwide damage so you may want to save your big heals for that (such as HoTing people up and then casting Flourish + Essence of G'hanir).  Avoid the green goo that the adds leave on the ground when they die. It hurts.  Your tank may want you to stack for the add phase so they can be AoEd down.  Dispel the Spirit Chains debuff as soon as you can.  Those in the physical realm will deal with the Engine of Souls, which shares a health pool with Soul Queen.  The Engine will cast Tormented Cries, which drops purple shadow crap on the floor.  Drop it on the rightmost edge of the room, and just move a teensy bit out of the first one so the next will drop right next to it.  If you get wedged between the goo, you can safely Displacer Beast past it.  However, make sure you stay on YOUR side of the room.  Don't go onto the other group's side because it causes Dissonance damage.  Be careful when the Reanimated Templar casts Rupturing Slam.  It will knock you back and can knock you off the edge of the platform to your death.  It looks like a wave of green on the floor.  Both sides need to be watch for Soulbind.  Two players on opposite sides will get linked with a debuff that does damage and will only go away when they are within 5 yards of each other.  Your raid leader will likely lay down a marker for the Soulbind targets to go where it will not trigger and damage for anyone else and you can drop the debuff safely.  At 30%, the Engine will drop the Desolate Host into the raid.  The Desolate Host does a large attack that affects both sides.  On the corporeal side, it is called Sundering Doom.  You need to go into the circle and stack on the tank so the damage is split.  Then you must run back out because next the Host casts another attack called Doomed Sundering, which is the same thing but only for the spiritual realm.  If you are in it while casts it, you will likely die.  It's like musical chairs: you move out then move in, and the other realm does the opposite.  Your raid leader will probably call it out until you learn it on your own.
